Electron Beam Welding – HSE Consent Approval

In a slight deviation from the usual applications, Market Cross assisted two companies to achieve IRR17 Consent Approval for Electron Beam Welding (EBW) operations.

EBW acts like a high-powered X-ray generator. When the high-speed electrons strike the metal workpiece, their rapid deceleration releases penetrating ionising radiation known as Bremsstrahlung (or braking radiation). Following a full IRR17 assessment and implementation of recommendations, both companies received Consent from the HSE to carry out their operations.

Radiation Protection at Capenhurst Nuclear Facility

A Market Cross RPA visited the Capenhurst nuclear site today to discuss radiation protection matters with a number of operating companies, including the site operator Urenco.

The focus was on an upcoming project involving the installation of new cranes in one of the cylinder waste stores. Also discussed were the various methods to ensure doses to personnel were kept as low as reasonably practicable, including time management, shielding, proximity management and emergency arrangements.

Market Cross trains safety personnel on the Pioneering Spirit rig deployment vessel

Market Cross corporate member, RITE Advice Ltd, has been training safety supervisors for the Pioneering Spirit installation and de-commissioning vessel. The Spirit is the largest, most versatile offshore construction vessel in the world and is able to lift entire platform topsides and jackets in a single piece.

The training involved theoretical and practical applications of safe working practices held up by the relevant legislative frameworks. This included ways in how to deal with naturally occurring materials and hazards in this very unique workplace.
